Taste of Ireland

March 7th, 2013 by James Hood

Irish_cloverMarch 17th is celebrated around the world as St. Patrick’s Day.

It was originally created as a Christian feast day to celebrate St. Patrick (patron saint of Ireland) who brought Christianity to the island nation. It is said that St. Patrick used the shamrock (3-leafed clover) to teach the native people about the Holy Trinity.

More commonly, the day celebrates Irish culture, heritage and food.

New York City has its famous parade with pipe bands and step dancers, and Chicago goes so far as to dye the river green.

For our part, the Fort William Henry Hotel and Conference Center is bringing you “A Taste of Ireland.”

On March 17th, from 4 pm to 8 pm, Executive Chef Anthony Teta and his award-winning culinary team will be serving all of your favorite Irish foods including:

  • Corned Beef and Cabbage
  • Guinness Braised Beef Brisket
  • Shepherd’s Pie
  • Bangers and Mash

Put on your finest green clothes and join us for “A Taste of Ireland” or put in a “to-go” order for the whole family! Happy St. Patrick’s Day!!

Where’s the Love this Valentine’s Day?!

February 5th, 2013 by James Hood

A quick review of the Wikipedia entry about Valentine’s Day provides a daunting view for the holiday’s future. Oh, there will always be a Valentine’s Day, but where’s the love?!

Valentine’s Day has been associated with romance and lovers since the Middle Ages. By the 15th century, it was common practice to send flowers, candy and hand-written notes or cards with heartfelt expressions of love.

According to the U.S. Greeting Card Association, an estimated 15 million e-valentines were sent online in 2010. We can only hope that most of those were sent by grandparents to their grandkids or friend to friend… co-worker to co-worker.

Where’s the love in “Have a Smurfy Valentine’s Day”?
