Fort William Henry Museum

Fort William Henry is more than just a historic hotel and conference center! Experience the sights and sounds of the Fort during the French & Indian War at the corresponding museum, where guided tours are offered (reservations strongly suggested) and we also host events, demonstrations, and reenactments, as well as ghost tours in the fall.

Shopping at The Outlets

There’s an entire half-mile strip just south of Lake George Village along Route 9 referred to as “The Outlets.” This shopping treasure trove encompasses Adirondack Outlet Mall, French Mountain Commons, Log Jam Outlet Center, and The Outlets at Lake George East and West. All together you’ll find over 50 stores featuring name brands like J. Crew, Coach, and Carters.

Antiques

If you’ve got the antiquing bug, head north to nearby Warrensburg where you’ll find Miller Antiques & More and The Pillars Antiques on Main Street.

The House of Frankenstein Wax Museum

Come out of the rain and step inside a vintage horror movie! The House of Frankenstein Wax Museum on Canada Street delights locals and visitors alike with wax and animatronic figures and scary special effects. This unique attraction that’s part wax museum, part haunted house, arrived on the scene in 1974 and was the first haunted attraction in the Village. They’re typically open seasonally from May through early November.

The Hyde Collection

A New York City-worthy art collection can be found in neighboring Glens Falls at The Hyde Collection. This historic house and art museum – which are connected to one another, so you won’t have to go back outside in the rain to go from one to another – has four galleries with an ever-changing schedule of world-class exhibitions. They’re open by appointment, and you can reserve tickets on their website.

Chapman Historical Museum

The Chapman Museum is a restored home from the Victorian period with galleries and rotating exhibitions on the history of the Southern Adirondack Region. The Delong House reflects the lives of two generations of the DeLong family from 1860-1910. The tour emphasizes the lives of the Victorian families, which often involved a great deal of work from cooking on a coal stove to the daily cleaning out of the chamber pots! Come learn what life was like before TV, video games and the internet!

Fort Ticonderoga

In addition to the Fort William Henry Museum, there is another historical fort in the region. Fort Ticonderoga, about a one-hour drive north from Lake George, usually offers both indoor and outdoor exhibits and events seasonally. Saratoga Performing Arts Center

Ballet, Orchestra, Opera & More… The Saratoga Performing Arts Center is the summer home of the New York City Ballet Ballet, New York City Opera, Philadelphia Orchestra and many famous performers. It is truly a treasure in our region – a must-see during your Lake George NY vacation. Just a 20 minute drive from the Fort William Henry Hotel and you will be enjoying a marvelous performance at our area’s world class arts center.

Lake George Dinner Theatre

During a typical summer the Lake George Dinner Theatre offers a memorable dining and theater experience at the Holiday Inn Resort on Canada Street. You choose from four delicious entrees and enjoy tableside service in an intimate (and dry!) setting while watching an entertaining (and often hilarious) show.

Arcades

Note, arcades have not been given guidance to reopen from New York State. However, they are undeniably a significant part of the kitschy charm of Lake George, and in a normal year you can take advantage of three arcades on Canada Street: Playland Arcade, Family Arcade, and Fun World Arcade.

Bowling

Lake George Lanes & Games is just south of the Village across from A&W Restaurant, which has an arcade, bowling, laser tag, and much more indoor fun – they are open for bowling at this time.

The Adirondack Folk School

Sometimes you need to get creative to find fun indoor activities, and there’s no better place to discover a unique talent you might not have known about yourself. The Adirondack Folk School in nearby Lake Luzerne teaches the arts, crafts, and heritage of the Adirondacks through creative courses that all have a focus on Adirondack culture.

You can learn how to weave a basket, create a felted pouch, or even build a rustic end table. Classes run all year and you can find the calendar on their website.

Steamboat Cruise

You’ll be fairly dry on a covered boat tour with the Lake George Steamboat Company, located right across from the Fort William Henry Museum. Cruises sail rain or shine provided there aren’t storms, so if you’re not afraid of feeling some occasional raindrops consider crossing this classic Lake George activity off your bucket list. Rail Biking

Have you heard of rail biking, offered by Revolution Rail Co. in North Creek? This is another activity that operates rain or shine (again, unless there are dangerous conditions), so make a reservation on their website and experience one of the latest crazes in the Adirondacks for yourself. North Creek is 35 minutes from Lake George Village.

ADK Glassblowing Studio

ADK Glass offers private glassblowing classes in their studio, located about 30 minutes away from the hotel in North Creek. This unique hands-on glassblowing experience allows guests to design their own glass vase, bowl, or figurine and work with an instructor to bring their creations to life! Classes are available for 1-4 people and generally take about an hour. When your project is ready, ADK Glass will ship it to your door to be put on display.

Hot Air Balloon

Todd owns three balloons, which he flies around the world at most major balloon festivals. He also owns a special shape Clown balloon that entertains kids in all areas. You can see Todd Monahan around Fort William Henry where he worked for nine years so feel free to ask balloon questions. He is very knowledgeable and we have created a special package for you to take a beautiful breathtaking balloon ride with him in the sky above the Adirondacks.

Pickleball

There are many pickleball courts near Fort William Henry. Just minutes from the hotel are Ushers Park and Lake George High School, and a bit further away in Glens Falls is Crandall Park (pictured here). During the spring, summer, and fall, advanced players can visit Jenkinsville Park in nearby Queensbury (15 minutes away). The local YMCA also has indoor courts and a pay-to-play option year-round.

Horse Racing

You don’t have to be a serious racing fan to love the beauty and excitement of thoroughbred horse racing in Saratoga. There is no place like it in the world. Legendary races like those run by Man O War – winning five races in Saratoga, as well as suffering the only loss in his career. Golf

The view from the Top of the World Golf Course is spectacular! Lookout over Lake George with its pine studded islands and the surrounding Adirondack Mountains. The course is close to Fort William Henry.

Hop aboard the largest cruise ship on Lake George, the Lac du Saint Sacrement, for a delightful lunch in an elegant dining room. As you cruise in style, learn about the history of the lake through the captains’ narration, relax on the deck chairs & let the ship do the work. Bike Tours

There is something for everyone from the rolling paved Warren County bikeway which runs nine wooded miles from Lake George to Glens Falls, the easy flat ride on the Feeder Canal Trail and the challenging dirt trails of the Adirondack Mountains. So don’t forget to bring your bike!

Scenic Drive

Driving through the small towns of the Adirondacks, you will discover charming country stores with apples, crafts, pumpkins and homemade pies, farm stands, lakes, ponds, streams and waterfalls and you will be surrounded by the majestic Adirondack Mountains. The mountains are brightly colored in orange, red, yellow and green.

Take a picnic up to the top of Prospect Mountain and enjoy the 100 mile view of Vermont’s Green Mountains, New Hampshire’s White Mts., New York’s High Peaks and on a clear day you can even see the Laurentians of Canada.

Hike the Adirondacks

The Lake George region in the base of the Adirondacks is the perfect starting point for a fall foliage hike. Whether you’re a senior or an expert hiker there are trails just for you. You’ll be amazed that “The air is so fresh, it even smells clean” as my Italian friend said as we hiked through Inman Pond. The hikes lead to views that will take your breath away. Family Hikes

Inman Pond is a short 2.5-3 mile hike through the woods which leads to a picturesque pond with a floating bog and a beaver dam. Our Pick for a Mountain Climb… I hike Buck Mountain at least once every year, the 6.6 mile round trip hike takes 2-3.5 hours and is worth every step. When you reach the summit you are rewarded with breathtaking panoramic views of the southern basin of Lake George and surrounding colorful Adirondack Mountains.

Indoor Activities

We offer plenty to do right at the hotel even on winter days. Swim in our heated indoor pool, take a relaxing sauna or enjoy a soak in the Whirlpool Spa. We even offer several different dining options right here at the hotel. everyone. Or if you’re looking to explore the area there is plenty to do.

Apple Picking

In September and October, visit Hicks Orchard in Granville – about 40 minutes from the hotel – and pick delicious apples! After you’re done picking, stop inside for irresistible apple cider and donuts.

Lake George hosts many Oktoberfest celebrations, is home to the Lake George Jazz weekend, Music Festivals, Fall Festivals and “The World’s Largest Garage Sale.”

Downhill Skiing & Snowboarding

Downhill skiing and snowboarding are two of the quintessential winter activities in our region of Upstate New York. Our resort is conveniently located within driving distance of some incredible mountains and ski resorts. West Mountain, a great mountain for families and beginners, is just 10 minutes southwest of Lake George.  Gore Mountain, 45 minutes north, offers a variety of terrain that skiers can spend all day exploring. Many of Vermont’s premier ski mountains are also within a 2-hour drive from the resort.

Cross Country Skiing & Snowshoeing

Cross-country skiing and snowshoeing are fun winter activities for people of all skill and experience levels. The Lake George area is home to different types of trails, from short loops through the woods to large resorts that offer rentals and lessons. Coles Woods, just 10 minutes away, features FREE groomed & lit ski trails, as well as designated snowshoe trails. Garnet Hill Lodge, a 1-hour drive north, offers spectacular views and well-groomed ski trails, plus lessons and rentals. The Warren County Nature Trails, 20 minutes from the resort, range in difficulty from easy to expert.

Snowmobiling

Lake George is home to miles of snowmobile trails that connect to other trail systems throughout the area and into the Adirondacks, giving riders tons of opportunities to explore. When the ice is thick enough, 5 to 7 inches, you can even take a ride across the lake!

If you’ve never gone snowmobiling before, the area has many reputable guide services that can show you the ropes.

Snow Tubing

Lake George has one of the best snow tubing hills at the Lake George Rec Center, just a few minutes away from the resort. If you want to visit other spots in the area that offer rope tows at their tubing hills, try West Mountain or Tubby Tubes.

Lake George Winter Carnival

Lake George Village hosts a month-long celebration of winter during this annual family-friendly event! In typical years, the Winter Carnival takes place each weekend throughout February and brings with it a schedule of events like polar plunges, outhouse races, and cooking competitions. Mark your calendar and take part in the fun. Be sure to book your room in advance as weekends in February tend to be very popular!

Hot Tub at Fort William Henry

Guests relaxing at the indoor pool during the winter months can make use of the hot tub as well. Warm up with deliberately placed hot tub jets, and soak any stress away. You’re in Lake George vacation mode now!

Indoor Skating & Family Fun

Lake George family fun doesn’t stop in the winter! At The Fun Spot, kids can typically go roller skating, play laser tag, test their luck at arcade games, burn off some energy in the multi-level playground, and hone their skills on the Ninja Challenge Course. As a result of the pandemic, The Fun Spot was limited to outdoor attractions, like mini golf, during the summer, so visitors should call ahead for a status update on the indoor attractions before arriving.

Ice Skating

There’s nothing quite like ice skating on the lake in the winter, so don’t forget to bring your skates!  When there is black ice, you can see the railroad tracks from when the trains came to get ice for ice boxes (before freezers were invented). Be sure to check with the hotel to make sure the ice on the lake is safe before heading out on it.

Fort William Henry’s Ice Bar

Fort William Henry hosts its very own Ice Bar in February every year. We serve up hot soup, drinks, beer, and cocktails at a full ice bar with sculptures and more. Warm up next to the fire pit or play some fun outdoor games!
