Channeling Your Inner-Child: Snow Tubing & Sledding

Winter activities abound in the Lake George region. After a restful night at The Fort William Henry Hotel, start your morning with a big breakfast at The White Lion Restaurant. The omelets are famous and the cinnamon swirl french toast or Adirondack oatmeal will give you a satisfying start for the day ahead.

If you’re looking for a break from skiing, head to either West Mountain Tubing Park and soar down one of their many lanes, or enjoy Dynamite Hill Recreation Area in the town of Chester for some serious sledding.

If you’re not from an area that gets a lot of snow, chances are you’ve never been snow tubing or sledding. Or if you are from a snowy region, it’s time to relive a childhood activity. This easy recreational pastime is perfect for non-skiers who want to enjoy the fresh powder. It’s even catching on among thrill-seekers looking for effortless excitement. Here in Lake George, snow tubing and sledding provide simple, affordable fun for everyone. So much fun, you’ll get the entire family in on the act! Here are some of the best places to do it.

Dynamite Hill – At Dynamite the sledding is free, and they even have lights for night sledding. Bring your own sleds and snow tubes for this enjoyable adventure.

Gurney Lane – At this site, you will find a great sledding hill for the entire family. Bring your sleds and be ready for lots of fun.

West Mountain – This tubing park is open day and night. There are four upper lanes and six lower lanes, all accessible by the moving magic carpet ride. Hop on with your tube and let the moving magic carpet take you up the hill to the starting point.

Warrensburg Recreation Field – This park comes complete with a toboggan run. You can find it, along with cross-country ski and snowshoe trails at this winter recreation hub in Warrensburg. It was created in the 1930s after the 1932 Winter Olympics inspired the community in Lake Placid to create their own winter sports hub.

Lake George Recreation Park – Less than a mile from Lake George, you’ll find a fun snow tubing hill at the Lake George Recreation Center. Bring the entire family for some great winter fun. There are no rentals, so be sure to bring your own snow tube.

After an exciting day tubing and sledding on the hills, join us back at The Fort William Henry Hotel’s Lakeside Restaurant & Lounge for a steaming cup of hot chocolate. You can warm up by our indoor fireplace or one of our outdoor firepits. Here is an excellent place to rehash your family stories (now family legends).
